Outfit of the Week | Men's Style Edit | ASOS, Superdry, Serge Denimes

This week has been pretty awesome, I started off the week doing lots of fashion photoshoots with loads of new clothing that I've brought, so I've got some incredible Style Edits coming in the coming weeks. Tuesday evening was a dinner event to celebrate the launch of the new Mont Blanc fragrance attended by industry experts, press and social influencers all joined together for a tasty evening at the Ivy Market Grill in Covent Garden.

Wednesday night brought the launch of the new male grooming brand House 99 which was endorsed by the one and only David Beckham, who also attended the event and mingled for a couple of hours before heading off. Moving swiftly on to my Thursday where I had a meeting with one of my favourite brands of all time Boda Skins who are hosting a pop-up store just around the corner from Warren Street tube station. I managed to get my hands on one of their designer leather jackets which you do not understand how happy that makes me!

Male grooming and fragrance aside, I feel that 2018 is going to be the year of men's accessories with designer sunglasses and jewellery at the fore-front of this trend. Just look at brands such as Serge Denimes, Taylor Morris and Alex Orso who are pioneering this trend in men's fashion.

For my outfit of the week, I'm wearing an ASOS striped t-shirt layered with a checked wool blend jacket, black jeans and black Chelsea boots from Superdry. I've accessorised with a psir of H.F.S sunglasses by Taylor Morris, a Kartel watch, rings from Serge Denimes and a pendant chain from Alex Orso.

Men's January Winter 2018 Fashion Haul & Outfit of the Month

I'm sure I'm not the only person out there thats had a great start to the year, none of this BLUE January stuff here. I had the most amazing Christmas and New Year, just spending quality time with family, relaxing, eating loads...it was bliss. January came and I've kept up with my fitness goals, combining HIIT training with British Military Fitness, Boxing with KOBOX, the Gym at Virgin Active and some PT strength training sessions with Neal Williams. It may seem overkill but I think it works to keep your exercises fresh, different and therefore fun, yet certainly not monotonous. I've also spruced up my home interiors with some plants which is making working from home much more comfortable and I'm feeling positive for my work situation in 2018, so it's all positive thinking here in the Thompson household!

I am aware however that January can be tough financially, with people over indulging during the festive period and made to pay for it in interest payments over the following months. Most people also get paid earlier in December, which means that our pay packets have to stretch that little bit further - unless you are good at managing your money of course. So we tend to have less money in our pockets for luxuries such as clothing, however this is the perfect time to invest in some new threads. With the brands shifting focus to spring/summer collections, the winter clobber is old news and they're selling it off cheap.

For this style edit, I've combined my recent winter haul with my outfit of the month in a kind of 2in1 deal. My style for this edit is very much smart casual, business attire or commuter wear. It's smart, yet comfortable and practical. My outfit consists of signature Chelsea boots from NEXT, navy chinos from Spoke London, navy roll neck jumper from Jaeger, tan corduroy blazer from ASOS and a cashmere overcoat from Hawkins & Shepherd. As always, if you love it shop it by clicking on the images below.

That's not all for this post as here is some bonus material with links to all of my favourite pieces of clothing that I have personally brought within the last two weeks.

Outfit of the Week | Men's Style Edit

How has everyone's December been so far? Mine has been super productive and I've even managed to combine working extremely hard with shed loads of going out and waking up with hangovers. The only thing that's suffered has been my fitness. Saturday I was out having a few beers with friends and I got talking to a mate of mine who is a PT and we discussed how important it is to mentally prepare for getting fit in the new year, in December.

Take myself for example. I've not really kept fit properly since early Autumn or Summer time, and I've hit the point where I think what's the point in just doing once or twice a week as it's not going to make a blind bit of difference. I do tend to be all or nothing although after the weekends chat, I've realised that mentally it is good to 'tick along' as stopping in it's entirety is so hard mentally to get motivated again.

So tonight I'm going to trundle along in 1st gear and do a few fitness classes (or as many as possible) before the new year starts when I'll drive straight from 1st gear to 6th without stalling and hit it hard. Give it a go yourself, get prepared with your fitness goals now and reap the rewards in January.

Outfit of the Week | Wearing Jaeger AW17 Collection

I absolutely love a good suit, so much so that half of my wardrobe is taken up with suits of different cuts, colours and styles. My latest addition was from the Jaeger AW17 collection, my first from this brand so was keen to get my hands on one. What initially drew me to this particular one was the subtle fine check pattern print of the navy suit. I wanted a suit the stepped away from classic plain palette designs and a bit more unique and therefore this one was the stand out piece from Jaeger's AW17 suit collection.

As we dip our toes into the autumn/winter 2017 season, I've moved away from traditional suit styling of a shirt and tie. Instead I went for warmth and style with a smart navy roll-neck jumper, which is a menswear trend right now. When wearing navy on navy, it can look a little boring and unimaginative, so I've added a plain white pocket square to give the suit a little more punch and the wow factor. My shoes are a dark tan colour, but black would also work equally well.

In this outfit of the week style edit, the suit is from Jaeger at £399 as is the navy wool roll neck jumper at £104.  The white pocket square is by Drake's via MR PORTER and part of their Kingsman edit at £55. The shoes are by Goodwin Smith and available for £125 and finally the watch is by Rotary at £155.

Dressing Smart Casual | The Men's Style Edit

When an invite suggests dressing 'Smart Casual' it's always met with question marks around whether to veer more towards smart or casual? For me smart-casual means a pair of trousers or smart jeans, a shirt, blazer and shoes...no ties, no trainers and certainly no shorts unless you are in Italy in the fashionable Tuscany district, then it's passable. I think many men struggle with dressing smart casual because there are decisions to be made! So in this Style Edit, I've put together an outfit that I would class as smart-casual (*with a little toe more in the smart side).

I've styled a navy suit, as it's always good to turn up to your meeting or event dressed on the smarter side, then you can always lose the blazer for a slightly casual look. Alternatively you could wear a blazer with a pair of smart jeans (no rips) or trousers in contrasting colours. If your trousers are slim or tapered fit then you have the ability to wear a pair of loafers without any socks. On to the shirt, of course a tie is not required so a button-down or even a granddad shirt is the perfect collar type for smart-causal attire. If you want to marten up a little bit, add a touch of class with a pocjet square or silk scarf as I have demonstrated in this look.

Outfit of the week | What to wear at Weekends

Seriously, can this weather make its mind up...one minute it's cold enough to consider turning the heating on, then next it's raining and then you'll get a sunny 30degrees perfect summer day. That's the joys of living in London, I guess! I often get asked, what are the best items of clothing to wear on weekends and my answer is to always keep it simple, comfortable and layer-able. So to demonstrate this I've put together this easy outfit for my outfit of the week.

I love a burgundy t-shirt and this one was brought in-store at COS for just under £20. I'll always style burgundy with black, so in this look I've styled my new tee with a pair of black corduroy jeans from AG Jeans. I've rolled up the jeans to showcase these epic trainers from National Standard. My sneakers have a purple tinge to them which works great with this look, however they are from the autumn/winter 2016 collection so I'm unsure if you can buy them anymore. You can substitute with any dark coloured trainers such as the ones I've added below or even a pair of black boots would work equally well. Finally I've styled this look with two black coloured accessories to keep with the same theme...I'm wearing a Seiko watch with black bezel and my black wayfarer Ray-Ban sunglasses. Done!

If it rains then you are just wearing a t-shirt so it will be quick drying. Alternatively if the weather gets a little nippy, just layer a thin open buttoned black shirt over the top or even a very lightweight black jacket. So there it is...what I wear on weekends, simple, clean but packs a punch.

If you like it...shop it.
