Birthday Cake Candle DW Home | Guilty Pleasures | Review

Here we go with another Candle review. I was in Marshalls, sniffing a variety of different candles. A couple of attractive ladies were also in the same aisle, semi-jockeying around me doing the same, sampling candles and scents.

I did wonder to myself, do they think I'm gay? Are they attracted to me, thinking I'm not gay, but 100% safe in my masculinity that I am not ashamed to be seen in the candle aisle, with the utmost concentration on my face as I decide which discounted one to buy. Today I went for Birthday Cake by DW Home.

The Hype

Fresh baked vanilla cake with frosting and sprinkles.

The word on the street

One of our absolute faves, the whole family LOVES this one! The scent is warm and delicious, quite sweet yet natural, and lingers long after it's blown out. This candle simply makes me happy!

The smell

The vanilla and sweetness is enough to get my insulin levels up. If this wasn't a candle I'd eat it up immediately. I might do it anyway.

The smell transports me back to the days of licking the spoon as my mum made the mixture for the cakes. Then we'd sit down, it was my Sisters birthday that year. If I was a good boy and collected all the wrapping paper at the end of the gift giving, I also would get a gift. That year my Mum forgot and I cried. She attempted to wrap something in a hurry to alleviate my wails. It was a green pen of some description. It did nothing to comfort me and I cried some more.

God what a problem child. Let me message her now and just tell her I love her. Why don't you hit pause and do the same.

Why candles are a hit in our house

I've been thinking about this on my run this morning. And a mutual love of candles is a special bond I have with my wife. It's one of the few things we shop together for. Many times we go our separate ways, or I'm deeply tuned out when we shop for floor tiles, lamps, or other decor. but candles, I am fixated on. We've bought so many in the past, and we each have our favourites. So far nothing has usurped Espresso Martini and one day I might just put a list together of all our favourites.

This one is a hit

This Birthday Cake candle is so rich with vanilla. It is ridiculously immature and perhaps needs to be lit in a nursery. But we have a soft spot for it. Much like birthday cake itself, it's something of a guilty pleasure.
