Versace Pour Homme by Versace Cologne – Road-testing the ‘Compliment Magnet’

Today I want to give you a quick review of the Versace Pour Homme by Versace Cologne. I've often heard this fragrance being referred to by friends as a 'compliment magnet'. Naturally curiosity got the better of me so decided to give it a whirl.

First off the bottle is beautiful. Strong glass shoulders and a secure metallic cap. Sits in the palm of your hand without compromise and I enjoy holding it, and reaching for it.

Versace Pour Homme was launched in 2008. The nose behind this fragrance is Alberto Morillas. Top notes are Lemon, Bergamot, Neroli and Rose de Mai; middle notes are Hyacinth, Cedar, Clary Sage and Geranium; base notes are Tonka Bean, Musk and Amber.

Initial thoughts:

I enjoyed the citrus and bergamot blend. It transported me to a cocktail bar, in central London. The Connaught yes that was it. The bergamot martini's there, with the tray of bitters. It had that bergamot alcohol infusion, but of the quality befitting a decadent 5 star hotel. The price somewhat belies the name and the luxurious effigy that this fragrance exudes.

There is a floral follow through, and soothing woody dry down, like provides a soft landing to this fragrance. As you can see from the photos I've had this fragrance for a couple of months, and it really has been a good go-to, mainly for the BBQ's out on the decking; I wore this fragrance throughout the entirety of the Euro's.

I certainly got some compliments on this, but only up close. Yes once I was double jabbed I may have played fast and loose with the social distancing laws. I don't think it's a projector, I don't think it hangs around for many hours, and I also think it's definitely a unisex scent. There are no tobacco or deep woody notes that make this particularly masculine. (If that's even a way to describe those notes anymore).

It's light, it's breezy, but not aqua-breezy. Not Riviera-breezy. I didn't take this one with me to Greece nor did I include it in my Top 5 Summer Holiday Fragrance review. And that's because I'd like to have a fragrance that stays with me from the time I leave the hotel, to the time I return.

This one smells great, and sure does get a lot of women wanting to hug you, but it doesn't perform like a holiday fragrance should.

But then this is not a scent that will break the bank. It's a very accessibly priced fragrance, I can't remember how much I paid but I know I didn't pay over 50 sheets. It could also be too late in the year now for a fragrance like this. As it gets a bit cooler I'll be looking for more earthier notes and aromatic scents. But this could be brought off the bench for impromptu moments or dare I say, an Indian Summer weekend.
