Gritti Mango Aoud Review: Have I Just Found the Holy Grail of Fragrances?
WOW. What a fragrance. I genuinely think I might have found the holy grail. Every so often, a fragrance comes along that completely stops you in your tracks, and Gritti Mango Aoud has done exactly that.
For me, this fragrance ticks every box. It's spicy, sexy, rich, exotic and wonderfully unique. It's the sort of fragrance that makes you immediately want to smell it again, just to understand exactly what makes it so incredible.
Finding something like this reminds me of collecting rare Formula One Topps Chrome cards. You can open hundreds of packs, discover some incredible cards along the way, but every so often you pull something genuinely special. Something you know deserves pride of place in your collection.
Gritti Mango Aoud feels like pulling that elusive 1/1 card.
I've experienced hundreds of fragrances over the years, and it's becoming increasingly difficult to find something that genuinely surprises me. But this one has.

The Scent
What makes Mango Aoud so interesting is the contrast between the tropical sweetness of mango and the darker, more mysterious character of oud. On paper, it's an unusual combination. Mango is typically associated with bright, playful summer fragrances, whereas oud tends to bring richness, warmth and intensity.
But together? Absolutely incredible.
The fragrance opens with mango, guava and neroli, creating a wonderful explosion of tropical fruit. Mango is unmistakably the star, with guava adding another layer of juicy sweetness and neroli providing a fresher, slightly floral contrast.
As the fragrance develops, coconut milk, osmanthus and ylang-ylang introduce a beautiful creaminess. This is where Mango Aoud begins to feel particularly indulgent, almost gourmand in character, but without losing its sophistication.
Finally, oud, vanilla and amber form the base, introducing the darker, warmer elements that make this fragrance so special. It's fruity without feeling juvenile, rich without becoming overwhelming and sensual without being too obvious. For me, it's the contrast between these ingredients that makes the composition exceptional.
Why Mango Aoud Is So Special
I often talk about fragrances being distinctive, but there's a difference between something that smells unusual and something that smells genuinely exceptional. Mango Aoud manages to be both.
Created by perfumer Luca Gritti as part of the house's Ivy Collection, it takes two very different fragrance worlds and brings them together beautifully. There's an addictive quality to the tropical sweetness, but the oud and amber give it a maturity and richness that make the whole composition feel incredibly luxurious.
What I particularly love is that it doesn't fit neatly into one fragrance category.
It's tropical, but I wouldn't necessarily describe it as a traditional summer fragrance. It's rich and spicy, but not something I'd reserve exclusively for winter. And that's exactly what makes it so appealing.
After years of collecting fragrances, I find myself becoming increasingly selective. I've discovered some extraordinary creations from the world's most prestigious perfume houses, but very few give me that immediate reaction of wanting to own them. Mango Aoud has.
When to Wear Gritti Mango Aoud
Ordinarily, I'd associate mango and tropical fruits with spring and summer, while oud, vanilla and amber tend to make me think of colder evenings. But Mango Aoud brings both worlds together.
I'd happily wear this on a warm summer evening, particularly when heading out for dinner or an event. Equally, I think it would be incredible during autumn when you want something with a little more richness.
For me, this is a fragrance for occasions when you want to wear something genuinely special. It's confident, distinctive and has the sort of character that makes it stand out amongst a collection.
Is Gritti Mango Aoud Worth It?
Luxury niche fragrances are becoming increasingly expensive, and with so many options available, I think it's important that something genuinely stands out before you consider investing.
For me, Mango Aoud absolutely does. Not simply because of the ingredients or the reputation of the perfume house, but because of the emotional reaction I had when I first smelt it. That immediate WOW moment is something you can't manufacture.
Of course, fragrance is incredibly personal, and the combination of tropical fruit and oud won't appeal to everyone. I'd always recommend experiencing it on your own skin before purchasing. But personally, this is one of those rare discoveries that reminds me exactly why I love collecting fragrances.
I think it might just have earned itself a place amongst my all-time favourite fragrances.
