DW Home Classic Man Hand Poured Candle

Today I want to share some thoughts on my recent strip mall purchase, DW Home, the Classic Man Hand Poured Candle. I was very pleased to pick this one up after learning that it was discontinued from their product range.
You may have caught my previous article reviewing the Leather Musk candle from Leoben & Co, which I loved. This one was a slow burn for me, pardon the pun, but after a few hours it really comes into its own.
The word on the street:
If you like the B & BW flannel, this is definitely worth trying. It's not an overpowering cologne type of scent.
The hype:
“Radiant greens and brilliant wild herbs combine with sparkling marine aldehydes, warm florals, ambered woods and enduring touches of cool white musk”
The jar:
Is a solid oceanic blue, that is not translucent. That's a bit of a shame as they make the glass translucent ones for the Woodsmoke Bourbon which I'll review in a later post. It does add to the overall atmos of the experience if you can see the flame, so this was a disappointment.
My thoughts:
A warm soothing scent, with undertones of 80s fragrances. The strange bottles of aftershave on your dad's dresser. A quick flash of diesel, echoing those days of boat hire from Beccles or Oulton Broad. Mum will make the sandwiches, Dad will drink a whole flask of tea and 4 cans of John Smiths.
Kids will have the Jaffa Cakes.
There's a delicate mix of cooking spices, some musk and a push of amber. It has an aura of security, of being driven somewhere as a small boy. Head pressed against the leather of the back seat of Dad's Jaguar. There is a sense of belonging, and a sense of loss. Did I say thanks, at all?
The smell of musk, some tobacco. Following the cigar trail as he lead us through the streets of Great Yarmouth in search of another boozer or arcade. "Can't go in Lineker's Bar, not putting money in that tw*ts pocket," he'd say.
There is a hint of a workman's van. It's never cleaned. Crack the window open a couple of inches, even when he's not smoking. We all freeze inside that van, it's 6am along the back roads. Five Live on the radio. He hated music, unless it was The Shadows, Roy Orbison, or once in a blue moon, Jennifer Rush.
What is Classic Man? Can it take you down these rabbit holes? Maybe not the same ones as me, but fire it up, give it a go. Let's not forget them.
