Wildsmith Skin: My Sustainable Journey into Skincare Begins

Today I'm talking about Wildsmith Skin, a small team of like-minded individuals who live and breathe skin health. They have taken inspiration from their lush surroundings of woodland, meadows and gardens on the Heckfield Estate, and woven it into the very fabric of their skincare products. Those clinically proven natural skincare products are the result of working alongside scientists, innovators, growers, practitioners, educators, formulators and experts.

Over the years I have grown increasingly sceptical of the word 'natural' as it pertains to skincare products. Brands have hijacked the word, (much like you see 'London' tacked onto to every fashion brand that's off-shored) making it a nebulous buzz word that simply looks good but means very little. 

Wildsmith Skin has restored my faith in the word natural. They grow their own ingredients via biodynamic principles in the Market garden on the Heckfield estate. (Doesn't get any more natural than that right campers?) These include Calendula and Chamomile which have already been harvested, and they already have one eye on 2022 with 11 others being grown for a future range.

Sustainability

A quick word on my favourite subject, sustainability! Is this on the school curriculum yet? I feel like the kids need to learn about sustainability before they spawn into YouTubes and talk about nothing else but their Primark haul. I digress. Sustainability is at the very core of Wildsmith Skin. Their philosophy centres around the anatomy of trees. The way they deliver nutrients, adapt, heal and grow have guided their creation of natural high performance skin and body care. Both ingredients and finished products are put through rigorous laboratory clinical trials. 

And here's the part I really like

Wildsmith Skin use British-grown compostable mycelium packaging and containers made from glass and aluminium that can be endlessly recycled. Using a return label they provide, customers can send back their used packaging for free for them to recycle responsibly. 

Can you think of anyone else doing that? Whilst I applaud many brands that offer a return bag, it's often at a cost to the consumer. It's great that they can swallow the cost. 

Summary

Whilst it all sounds amazing, the sustainability element, the Radical Botany and the holistic approach to manufacturing these products, it's ultimately the quality of the products that the brand will be judged. I'm relieved to report that these products are some of the best skincare products I've trialled in a long time. And knowing that they are made here in the UK, with the support and craft of local experts is music to my ears. 

As a side note, I've been thinking these past few months of what to do with my channel. I still want it to focus on the lifestyle elements that I enjoy. However, I'm my interests are in homegrown brands. With a look towards the sustainable. Long gone are my ideas of big fashion hauls. We really don't need to be consuming more. Fashion and lifestyle is becoming less about consuming these days, and more about preserving. I think of Wildsmith Skin as line in the sand for this channel. It has all the qualities that I gravitate to in a brand. Made with love.
