DANIEL CRAIG: THE ACCIDENTAL STYLE ICON
CBS+Late+Show+Stephen+Colbert+Season+Two+LS-L35l8pUux.jpg

The minute Daniel Craig received news that he was going to be James Bond he went to the nearest supermarket, bought a bottle of vodka and took very little time consuming the contents. 'Celebrating are we?' Said the sales assistant. 'Something like that,' said Craig.

James Bond is one of the most style-scrutinised fictional characters ever. There are entire instagram pages, Vlogs, Blogs, podcasts dedicated to the subject of the style of James Bond.

To think also when Daniel Craig auditioned for the role he forgot his cufflinks. With no time to source any he arrived at the audition, his cuffs dangling loosely and unkempt. 'F*ck it' he thought, 'I'm just going to let them hang there.'

Today I'm going to give you a style break down of some of the key pieces and brands that Daniel Craig are loyal to. At the footer I will give credits to sources.

SHIRTS

Craig has worn Turnbull & Asser shirts, Tom Ford shirts and Brunello Cucinelli shirts as his time as Bond. Craig has also worn Turnbull and Asser shirts in style shoots for magazines. Styled by  Mark Holmes for Entertainment Weekly. Likewise he has adopted Brunello Cucinelli shirts for various red carpet events and brand ambassador duties. For the Golden Globes he also donned another British shirt maker Budd Shirts. He has often been seen in the 1920’s tab collar shirt design which can be purchased from London e-tailors Hawkins & Shepherd. I’ve included a selection of James Bond shirts below.

SUITS

Daniel Craig doesn't often get seen in suits when he is captured out in the wild. Tom Ford took over from Brioni providing the wardrobe for Bond in Quantum of Solace, and has since been the staple diet for Craig on screen. He has worn Tom Ford tuxedos to brand events, but he also indulges other designers and stylists. For the premiere of Knives Out he wore a Dior double breasted Natch suit, styled by Charlotte Hayward from Esquire, which was pilloried into the sartorial stratosphere.

A much better received look was the double breasted tuxedo he sported to the Golden Globes by Anderson and Sheppard, styled by Karla Welch.

Maybe a deeper insight into how Craig likes to dress is when he has to go formal, is the Thom Sweeney hopsack jacket he wore to the press conference for No Time to Die in Jamaica. Here he is still representing the image of James Bond so can't be seen to be too casual. But he decides to seep a little informality into his buttoned up look by wearing some Converse X Dear of God sneakers. Perhaps a concession to the heat, but also a little window into his preferred overall mode of dress; smart but not stiff.

COATS

Daniel Craig has been very influential in bringing some of his personal wardrobe into that of James Bond. He has an affinity for Billy Reid and as such you'll see the naval peacoat from Billy Reid in the Shanghai scenes in Skyfall.

As well as his go-to favourites (Tom Ford, Brunello Cucinelli) Craig has also opted for some obscure items such as a leather jacket from Neil Barrett. Perhaps a name in the industry but far from a household name, he wore the Neil Barrett jacket when he announced his return to the role of James Bond on the Stephen Colbert show. He has also sported Belstaff patterned leather jackets from time to time, but then again, who hasn't.

JEANS

Daniel Craig loves Rag N Bone. He is a huge proponent of wearing denim, even with blazers. He has also drafted Rag N Bone into the costume design for No Time to Die, he wears a white henley in the Jamaica scenes in the trailer.

Craig also opts for Edwin Selvedge denim and Levis from time to time. He generally prefers an unfussy look to his denim. Free of any distressing, honeycomb stacks or moustache whip fades.

SHOES & SNEAKERS

Daniel Craig is a huge lover and eulogist for Crockett & Jones. Word has it, it was him that lobbied hard for Bond to wear Crockett & Jones and he has done since Skyfall

Like a normal human being he is partial to suede chukkas, chelsea boots and casual sneakers and some of his go-to brands include Danner Boots, Converse, Dior, R.M Williams and Nike.

SUNGLASSES

For a recent cover of GQ magazine Craig posed topless and channelled his inner McQueen/Cool by wearing very little, except a pair of Jacques Marie Mage sunglasses. Once more his personal affectations for style has infiltrated Bond's wardrobe. Craig is a huge fan of Vuarnet sunglasses and they will also be seen in the upcoming film No Time to Die
