Confessions of a Cardigan Wearer: On my wish List

I don't mind admitting this, but I love me a cardigan. I used to look at my Uncle Grahame, a fantastic mustachioed cardigan wearer and pipe smoker, and think this guy has got it going on. Now I doubt I'll be allowed to smoke pipes around the house and shout incendiary remarks at the television now that I'm a married spud, but the cardigans are still a man's best friend.

Cardigans to me ooze Britishness, class and comfort. Who doesn't want a hug off a man wearing a cardigan? So long as he asked permission first and was preferably non-bearded, solvent and not wearing any matching Adidas tracksuits.

I've scoured the web and thought I'd present to you my Cardigan wish list right now, enjoy and let me know if you think it's a good idea to start a cardigan club, for real.

DESIGNED BY MR PORTER

I'm no golfer but I do love this look. I also like the way it's styled with a black polo shirt underneath the cardigan. Golf attire through the ages is the inspiration for Mr P.'s new line. This cardigan is knitted from fine merino wool for a relaxed fit so it's easily layered over polo shirts. It's finished with striped ribbed trims and a sporty 'P' appliqué.  £265

MEN'S GARRICK SHAWL CABLE CASHMERE CARDIGAN

I just love the sound of the colour of this N.Peal Cardigan; Oasis Green. I want people to come up to me in a bar, and say I love your cardigan, and I can then say thanks, it's Oasis Green. Made from 100% Mongolian Organic Cashmere and looks incredible when worn casually with jeans or upgraded with a crisp shirt and pants. £545

Mars Knitwear - William - Burgundy

I am seriously digging the beard on this guy. You have to bet he goes to Oktoberfest every year without fail right? Wow I'll take it all back what I said about beards earlier, I'd love a hug from this guy. But take a look at the cardigan also from Mars Knitwear. Engineered into a classic ribbed construction and fitted with the iconic football button closure, the William is the perfect knitted top layer for any occasion. The shawl lapels are can be worn down or flipped up, to match your preference. £195

Striped Merino Wool-Jacquard Cardigan

What I really love about a cardigan, is how versatile it can be. Look how effortlessly it can look underneath a tan shacket and wide leg trousers. Yes sir. Building your personal uniform requires a wardrobe packed with dependable styles like Mr P.'s cardigan. Patterned with irregular stripes, it's been jacqaurd-knitted in Italy from soft merino wool. £245

Striped Virgin Wool and Alpaca-Blend Jacquard Zip-Up Cardigan

And you're telling me you can't look cool in a cardigan? Sure it helps being rakish, chisel-cheeked and cloaked in a camel cashmere overcoat.  Mr P. reinterprets classic styles for the modern wardrobe. This zip-up cardigan is jacquard-woven with a virgin wool and alpaca-blend in a striped pattern and finished with ribbed trims. £325
