London Experiences Perfect for Father’s Day

I'm speaking to you London folk out there, looking to get something special for Father's Day, aside from those excellent socks from the London Sock Co. I'm doing some research myself on some interesting London Experience day-outs that I can treat my own Dad to. I thought I'd share those findings with you here.

Fullers Brewery Tour

Fresh off the back of hearing about my mate Pete Brooker shamelessly brag about his trip to Champagne country, I wanted to check into prices and what's involved with the private tours. Of course the Vineyards are in Sussex way and it's a bit of a schlepp to get there. However, there is a company that does a London drop-off and pick-up (from certain locations). It's called English Wine Tasting Tours and you can find out more about them here

It looks great value but logistically I can't make it work from where I am in Clapham Common. But I have looked at another drinking related tour, a very popular one for Londoners. The Griffin Brewery Tour in Chiswick. Whether you're looking for history and heritage, an insight into ale-making or just some superb samples, you'll find them all there. Their guides aim to answer your questions and give you a fascinating glimpse into British beer-making. The tour lasts around two hours and finishes with the highlight: a tasting of some of Fuller's finest ales.

London Walking Tour

I've done several of these. I remember doing The Beatles tour which was fascinating. The London Soho tour really exposed the underbelly of the Britain's Counter culture during the 60s. The Jack The Ripper tour was gruesome, yet morbidly intriguing. There are plenty of walks on the website and caters for all kinds of interests. Whether you're a foodie, into historical art or simply, pubs! Plus this is probably the cheapest way you can kill an hour or two in London.

The London Eye River Cruise

What man doesn't like to be at sea. I actually wasn't aware that they do boat cruises from The London Eye, but it looks to be a decent way to spend the afternoon. The London Eye River Cruise is a 40 minute circular sightseeing tour, along the River Thames. Departing from The London Eye pier you will be taken on route to see the House of Parliament, though to The Tower of London and Tower Bridge, where you will return back to The London Eye Pier. You can also combine this tour with a circular trip on The London Eye itself.

Charing Cross Underground Station

What now? Say what Carl? Well this might sound like it's coming from left field, but the Hidden London tours of the disused railway stations around London are quite fascinating. You might have seen the one from Charing Cross that advertise to Bond fans, (seen in the movie Skyfall). It speaks not only to the erudite history of subterranean London, but the quirky/murky underbelly of its untold secrets. Only runs until July so be sure to book while you can.

Top Gun: Maverick

This a cinematic experience like no other. All Dads love Top Gun, and all men want to be Tom Cruise. The iMax is the best way to experience this flick which I consider to be high art. It has innovative cinematic captures, an iconic soundtrack and some great acting from the entire cast. Not only that Jennifer Connolly has not aged a day. And neither has Tom. Never get old Tom, never.
