Fragrances Perfect for Father’s Day | Recommendations Tried & Tested

Today I'm going to share with you some suggestions for those of you looking to get some fragrance gifts for Father's Day. I know many of your Dads are loyal to a particular fragrance, mine has been invested in Brut for the past million years. However, a change is never a bad thing, especially if it's been the same bottle unused for a million years.

I'd be keen to know any further suggestions you may have, DM me on my instagram and I'll add to the listicle over time.

Mature men (normally the other side of 50 if you're buying for your dad) opt for serious, classic fragrances with musky, leather and woodsy notes. I've researched some fragrances that hopefully encapsulates the brawn and maturity of your Father.

Green Irish Tweed - Creed

When I reviewed this for the blog back in December 2021, I described it as,

[...] the opening comes with a vibrant lemon and verbena. I feel a slight push of peppermint, and then I wait. It's clean, it's mature, it's direct. This Green Irish Tweed is everything I was hoping for and come to expect with a Creed fragrance.

This has the class element that older men look for in a fragrance. It suggests worldliness, luxury but not the showy kind. I've worn this a couple of times and in all honesty, I believe it's a scent a man of my age has yet to grow into. To aspire to wear. You have to earn your stripes to wear a scent like this.

Available to buy via Harrods now.

50ml for £175. 100ml for £245. 250ml for £405. 500ml for £685.

Acqua Di Parma Colonia Pura

When I reviewed this for the blog back in October 2017, I described it as,

There is a real sense of personality to this new fragrance, a scent that truly tells a story. Centred around an Italian emotional identity, freshness and citrus come across strongly in Colonia Pura. The bottle is iconic and the new bright packaging embodies the fragrance entirely.

You can read the full review here. Why is it a perfect fragrance for Father's Day? The citrus notes are so authentic. There is no synthetic or artificial follow through. The older you get, the less time you have to suffer fools in inadequate substitutes. Because it’s a citrus fragrance, expect substantial projection but moderate longevity.

GIVENCHY Gentleman Eau de Parfum Boisée

When I reviewed this for the blog back in January 2020, I described it as,

It's not aromatic or mysterious enough for Black tie. But with its Black pepper and woody, floral notes afforded by the Iris, it's also not an everyday scent.

You can read the full review here. I'm still in love with this fragrance. I think the way the marketing team positioned this with Aaron Taylor Johnson being the face of the campaign was a misfire. I think the scent is a lot more experienced and for an older gentleman than Aaron. The woody and cocoa notes effuse a sophisticated vibe. For the man that has earned those grey whiskers and is proud to show them off.

Sauvage Parfum by Dior

When I reviewed this for the blog back in September 2019, I lifted a paragraph from the press release that says,

Sauvage Parfum offers extreme freshness coloured with warm oriental-style hues and evocative oriental notes. Adding touches of colour, Sauvage Parfum is highly concentrated with an intoxicating scent, delivering new depths and a palette of contrasts.

The press release can be found in full in the article

Sauvage Parfum is now an iconic fragrance and the imagery around the fragrance is almost as synonymous as the fragrance itself. It's an all-encompassing scent perfect for the seasoned gentleman who has probably travelled to as many of the countries from which the notes are sourced. They say Youth is Wasted on the Young. Well so is this scent.

Montblanc Legend

Lastly I want to offer the old man something new. I reviewed the Montblanc Legend fragrance on the blog back in March 2022. I characterised it by saying,

A charismatic woody fragrance, fresh yet intense, bold yet sensitive, the olfactory experience evokes the thrill of speed and makes the heart beat a little faster.

This has the X factor. A nice surprise element especially with its connections to Formula 1. And let's face it, which Father doesn't appreciate that sport? Perhaps for the more extraverted thrill chasing Tom Cruise - Father figures out there.
