BLACK IS NOW - hot from the embers of LIFE IS NOW (2018) and CELEBRATE last year (although both sound like contrivances don't they?) Pepe Jeans London launch their BLACK IS NOW fragrances. 

The bottles' design celebrates the iconic shapes of the cocktail world, a martini glass and shaker - formed in sleek black, hinting at the brand's personality, full of character with a touch of rock and roll. 

So looks a little funky on the bathroom shelf but offers the visual vim to the door side-dresser. (Presently boasts a crystal-cut key bowl crammed with loose change for the homeless and business bags for Charlie). 

THE FRAGRANCES 

The Pepe Jeans BLACK IS NOW Martini glass fragrance mainlines its essence in a bed of floral mischief. It's light, it's fun, it has big dreams but as one might expect, is grounded in an accessible price point reality. Still I lose myself in it for a short spell. It allows you to paint a larger canvas than it's capable of achieving on its own. 

There is a smoothness, there is also a blandness on the dry down. It's like a 4 hour long blockbuster that gave away the ending in the trailer. Still, I liked the trailer. I've not been Mis-Sold, and for £39.95 I've certainly not been over promised.

The Pepe Jeans BLACK IS NOW Cocktail shaker fragrance is a bold interpretation of its first launch LIFE IS NOW. This is a more sober, woody and perhaps the placebo of not spraying from a pink cocktail martini glass, dare I say more masculine. There is coffee, and good coffee. It's something of a redeemer from the lofty aspirations of the Martini Glass. But let's not muddy the water here. This is all about fun, novelty, what the Neil Strauss' of the world would call the 'whazzat?' 

It's an icebreaker and a conversation stimulator. Just don't expect to have an existential one.
