It's a New Year and you're rifling through all those new fragrances you got bought for Christmas. Unfortunately they all smell like crap because your Aunts and Uncles don't want to go over the ten pound budget on you now you're an adult.

But rather than slip a tenner in the Christmas card they went one better and did a trip to the bargain bins of Pound Stretcher and got you a 100ml of some scent you've never heard of in your life.

The cap is horrible and plastic and the atomiser inevitably breaks before you're halfway through the bottle.

Stick to what you know folks! Stick to what works and if it 'ain't broke, don't fix it.

Vetiver & Golden Vanilla from Jo Malone London

That's right I'm talking about Jo Malone London. I will never stop talking about how good this company is simply because their fragrances gets me more compliments than any others on my shelf.

The Vetiver & Golden Vanilla is the newest addition to the Jo Malone London Cologne Intense Collection.

THE NOTES

It has a very citrusy opening, afforded by the freshness of grapefruit tea. This is a great palette cleanser from all those aforementioned fragrances you've been gifted at Christmas. This is why you pay that little extra. (100ml Cologne RRP £122 and 50ml Cologne RRP £78).

Once the grapefruit settles then allow the cardamom to wash over before a wave of native vetiver comes and bullies the mix. And I say that in a good way. It's a welcome guest to this playful cocktail.

After that you'll feel cosseted by the warmth Precious Vanilla Bourbon, hand-picked from the orchid-sown jungle.

The fragrance is a delectable slice of exoticism. It's utter escapism. Like the linear notes to those POV postcards you see of peoples feet dangling off a hammock on the beach somewhere exotic.

It's strong. I got about 6 hours longevity and it stayed close to my skin the hole time.

It's earthy appeal really marries to the flavours of the Winter. About the fragrance Celine Roux, Global Head of Fragrance for Jo Malone London says:
