The Killer Fashion Routine | 5 Things I do that you should to

If you think of Fashion like a prize fight, you need a routine to get you into shape. Fashion is my gig, so I need to know what the main trending topics are around the themes of fashion. Whether it's sustainability, whether it’s big brand buyouts or takeovers, I at least want to know the beats of the conversation so I'm not out of touch when people ask for my opinion.

But Fashion is a monolithic mothership. I can't take it all on single handed. I can't digest every blog, every tweet from every luxury brand, it’s impossible.

But I do my best and here's my method and the tools I use for a killer fashion routine.

MORNING READING

I commit to reading one Blog a day minimum. Much like a workout routine I get this over and done with in the morning and then I feel semi-armed and abreast of what’s going on.

You probably subscribe to a lot of fashion Twitter accounts but for me the best one is The Business of Fashion. In the morning scan through the 4-5 articles they post daily, then chose one that catches your eye. Also see what's trending with the hashtags, you can often get the pulse of what’s going on there.

TRENDS

Hands up moment. I'm not always a huge advocate for following trends. I try and avoid them in truth. Although I'm conscious of what people are into and what's coming around the corner.

For Trends you can keep an eye on this e-commerce site ShopStyle.

Or you could take a quick glance at the top 100 men’s fashion blog through this link here. Find one that you like or maybe dedicate a special Instagram account where you follow them all. In a quick minute you scrolling you'll probably find as much as you need to know about current trends. While you're there don't forget to add mine, currently sitting at 45 in the list.

SHIRT SUBSCRIPTION

You're working an office job, you locked in for 5 days straight at the desk. You don't want to be spending your lunch break or your weekends shopping for shirts. But you need you need shirts for your job and you need them on rotation.

Get a shirt subscription package. It saves time, it saves money, you get them delivered straight to your door or your work. If you're looking for a good one why don't you check out my Shirt Subscription page over at www.hawkinsandshepherd.com. There are plenty different package deals, but you won't be overwhelmed I promise. You can sign up and get one a month, one every two months or one every quarter. These are the shirts I designed because these are the shirts I wanted to wear.

COMPLIMENT A STRANGER

I mean it. This is a great way to incorporate some good will into the fashion community. At the same time you can learn a thing or to. When I stopped someone in the street the other day, I said 'hey dude nice sneakers' we stopped and chatted for 5 minutes and I learnt all about the Supreme and Louis Vuitton collaboration. It's just a great way of meeting new people, making them feel good about themselves and you might learn something along the way.

DECENT DRY CLEANER

I can't even begin to tell you how important it is to find one. And boy did I have to kiss a lot of dry cleaning frogs before I met my Prince. That statement is wrong can we edit that? Here's the one I use, trust me I've been round the houses and these are the best. I'm not on the payroll but if you're in London use these guys.

If you're not, then start asking around. Don't ask your sloppy joe mates, ask the ones that always turn out respectable to your House Parties and don't come on to your girlfriend.
