Margiela Menswear Reinvent Your Wardrobe (My Top 5 Picks)

Margiela Menswear Reinvent Your Wardrobe (My Top 5 Picks)

I spoke to a friend in the rag trade the other day. I asked him, I want to shake up my wardrobe. What brand is out there right now on the vanguard of design. Forget gender, forget fit. I just want to turn heads but look cool doing it. I don't want to look like Sam Smith on the red carpet of The Brits. Where would I go, if I had a reasonable amount of money to completely reinvent my wardrobe.

My friend replied with the following message,

Look up reclusive Belgian designer Martin Margiela. And then he's replaced by John Galliano, arrested for an anti-Semitic rant in a Paris café.

So I looked him up. He has a WIKI page and that tells me that Martin isn't interested in doing interviews, photo shoots, or selling himself in a commercial way. But I loved the crazy looks on the website. Even the website itself is really cool. The images of the models wearing the clothes are animated and really show off their fluidity. Here are some of my picks from the collection. Enjoy.

Trainers

Today I want to share with you some looks from a brand called Margiela that have really made stand up and take notice. Let's start with the sneakers, or Tabi Shoes as they're referred to. In canvas, the sneakers have a ribbed front sole, numeric logo at the back, and feature the Tabi split-toe, inspired by the traditional 15th century Japanese sock bearing the same name – launched for the Maison's debut collection in 1989. I think these designs are truly unique and for someone looking to shake up their look, their wardrobe, maybe reinvent themselves somehow, why not give these a try?

Linen Blazer

With regatta season on the horizon and the best of the lot, the Henley Regatta, I'm always on the lookout for a boating jacket that offers a little something different in design. I love the contrasting stripe verticals on the lapels of this linen blazer.  It has work-in-progress stitching and the M button. At the back, four white stitches show the hand of the Maison: the opposite of a label.

Collarless Denim Jacket

So the denim skirt might not be in keeping with my style, but I do dig the overall look. AND I'm in love with this denim jacket. It's so hard to find a denim jacket that does anything interesting these days, especially from a design perspective. This fitted collarless denim jacket has a cracked white effect and features classic metal hardware and seam detailing. The contrast neck has a raw finish and the back shows the four white stitches, showing the hand of the Maison: the opposite of a label.

Jersey long-sleeve

You're getting the idea by now I hope. These looks are slightly off the wall and you'll pay a premium to look like a bit of an odd ball. But if you have the dough, you fancy a change in direction. Maybe you look at your wardrobe and think Christ, I've got nothing in here I like anymore. I need to shake it up! The jersey long-sleeve top features a print of the invitation for Maison Margiela's AW23 fashion show. Maison Margiela’s signature, the Four stitches, appear at the back; the opposite of a label.

Crazy Check Jeans

If you can only afford one item from my picks, these check jeans might have to be the one. The five-pocket jeans with Margiela hook closure feature Pendleton check print with a contrast ankle, giving a degraded look as if a printer has run out of ink. I just love that degraded fade at the trouser hem. Reminds me when I was into The Clash, The Sex Pistols, and Wayne County & the Electric Chairs. Google their most famous hit and crank out the Jack Daniels, ohhh wahh.
