5 European Spring Break Travel Destinations for Men

There's a lot going on behind the scenes at the moment in the Thompson house. Some days are better than others and the days where it feels like a slog, has made me dream of some Spring Time breaks. I wanted to put together a guide to the best Spring break locations for men, focusing on adventure, relaxation, and culture. So let's dive right in.

Prague

In terms of culture it doesn't get much better than Prague. There are countless museums, castles up in Karlov Vary which is a two drive from Prague. You can visit or stay in Hotel Grand Pupp which doubled for Hotel Splendid in Casino Royale. In Prague itself there are other Casino Royale locations, Mission Impossible locations and even locations from The Bourne Identity. More on those soon.

Austria

Whether you want to visit one of the best thermal spas in all of the world in Baden Bei Wein or simply take in the views of Austria on the infamous wheel at Prater Park, Austria is the king for culture and relaxation. If I could recommend just one thing to do in Austria, it's not seeing Klimt's Kiss at the Belvedere, or walking the gorgeous halls of Schonbrunn Palace, but the restaurant Ribs. I can't believe they haven't turned this idea into a million dollar franchise. The Ribs and the beer, are beyond exquisite.

Edinburgh Road Trip to Loch Ness

You should spend a weekend in Edinburgh if you get the chance. It's one of the best cities in the United Kingdom for culture, especially if you have a penchant for Gothic architecture. It's one for the family as well as perfect solo Spring break. Last May I published a blog which fleshed out all the main destinations to hit and places to stay from Edinburgh to Loch Ness.

The most relaxing part was driving along the thin roads past the lochs and through the countryside.

Rough cost Weekend Break: According to Hello Tickets you can spend up to £200 for a three day trip.

Isle of Islay

Home to some of the best distilleries in the world. They have an upcoming festival on the last week of May, you can see the website for details. Believe it or not I caught my friend's article from ten years ago, after he visited the Bruichladdich distillery. I always remembered him talking about how they borrow each other’s car on the island and don't bother locking their doors because there is no crime.

Rough price of a week-long trip: Just under £2k according to Champion Traveler.

Epernay (Champagne Region)

A couple of years ago I posted an article on my blog about a trip to Epernay. The main champagne houses are spread out across Reims, Epernay and Ay. Reims is the more attractive city, about an hour away from Paris by train from Gare de l'Est.

It's both relaxing, historic, educational and you get to drink Champagne on tap. It truly depends on the time and the season that you visit. But as we have this on our doorstep, (relatively speaking) this looks like the ultimate Spring break holiday.
