Top 10 Wood Based Fragrances for Men

Today I'm going to be throwing a spotlight on the Top 10 Wood based fragrances for men. In a previous post I touched upon what notes are synonymous with men's fragrances. You can read that article here

In no discernible order, but obeying the laws of listicles:

Barbour For Him

The woody textures certainly place this firmly within the outdoorsy fragrance bracket. In fact, I've been enjoying wearing it around Clapham Common whilst cradling my new baby boy Chips (puppy). On the opening I got more involved with the citrus note, before slowly unwinding the woody textures and spicy peppers. You can read a full review I did on this and the Barbour For Her fragrance here

BVLGARI MAN Wood Essence

It does what it says on the bottle. You'll get a very clear hit of Cedarwood and Cyprus wood. That's why I'd say this a predominately masculine scent. Tuula loves it but hasn't gone anywhere near wanting to wear it herself. Read my full review on this woody number here

KENZO HOMME Eau de Toilette Intense

Kenzo Homme Eau de Toilette Intense by Kenzo is a Woody Aromatic fragrance for men. The nose behind this fragrance is Quentin Bisch. Top notes are Calypsone, Sea Notes, Spices and Pink Pepper; middle notes are Fig Tree, Fig and Vetiver; base notes are Sandalwood, Akigalawood and Patchouli. Read my full review on this beauty here

TOM FORD Vanille Fatale

Back in 2018 TOM FORD introduced VANILLE FATALE. Refined yet raw, polished yet primal, Private Blend Vanille Fatale grips the senses with stirring spices, grounded florals and robust woods. It might not be the Oud Wood or scream woody like Jessie in Toy Story 2 (thanks, that's why I get the big bucks) but it really grounds this scent. It gives the fragrance so much more depth, like a good Woody scent should. Full review can be found here

Jo Malone London Bronze Wood & Leather Cologne Intense

Previously documented on my top men's leather fragrances. This Bronze Wood & Leather Cologne Intense by Jo Malone London also has to make it into the wood listicle, as it's very interchangeable, incredibly versatile and oddly addictive. Read the full review here

Yves Saint Laurent Splendid Wood

On my wish-list for a long time was YSL Splendid Wood, which I managed to get my hands on a few months back. It’s also recommended in the article 16 Best Earthy & Woody Colognes & Fragrances for Men by Jacob Osborn in Man of Many, Yves Saint Laurent Splendid Wood is characterised by strong woody notes like oud and cedar. That’s balanced by shades of earth, flower and spice for an overall profile that’s as soft as it is pronounced, and cool as it is hot.

Wood & Spices by Montale

On my wish-list and recommended in the article 8 Best Woody Fragrances For Men by  Sergei Gusev in ScentBird, Wood & Spices by Montale is oud-based. Although the oud here is not very aggressive or barnyardy, and it’s framed by a light, earthy green vetiver note as well as incense.

DIOR Fahrenheit

Fahrenheit has a somewhat cult following and is one of these fragrances that you’ll either love-it or hate-it! Recommended in the article I Exclusively Wear Woody Scents—These Are My Cult Picks by Keeks Reid in Who What Wear, this EDT is marketed to male customers. The warm cedar, patchouli and leather are a powerful combination.

TOM FORD Oud Wood

Yes another Tom Ford fragrance on the list. This time it’s Tom Ford Oud Wood, a personal favourite of mine and my brother actually. It’s a cult classic from the Tom Ford Private Blend range of fragrances, it’s on Selfridges Best Sellers and a must for all top wood fragrance lists. This fragrance will compliment your personality and opens with spice and wood notes including Rosewood, in the heart is Sandalwood and the base is sweetened up with Amber & Vanilla. It’s the perfect balance.

Creed Green Irish Tweed

I know I said that this list was in no particular order, but actually it is…somehow I’ve left the best two on this list until last Tom Ford Oud Wood and Creed Green Irish Tweed. They are both a must for any fragrance shelf. Creed Fragrances are inspiring, unique and worth every penny. They also have Creed Aventus as their best selling fragrance (which is also technically a woody fragrance but for me Green Irish Tweed, although not as popular, is better). Creed Green Irish Tweed has wood notes (Sandalwood & Cedarwood) all through its base meaning they will be the most prominent notes on your skin for the duration in which the fragrance lasts.
