Mai Nami Hair Pudding Review: The Best Hair Product I’ve Ever Used

Every now and then I try a grooming product that genuinely surprises me. Mai Nami Hair Pudding is one of those products. In fact, I’ll go further: this might be the best product I’ve ever used in my hair. That’s quite a statement, but finding the right styling product for my hair has always been surprisingly difficult.

My hair is naturally wavy and on the drier side, and I actually like the way it looks when I leave some of that natural texture alone. The problem is finding something that gives it just enough control without completely changing how my hair looks and feels.

Most styling products seem to go too far in one direction. Pomades can be too heavy or shiny. Clays can make dry hair feel even drier. Gels give too much hold. Even some supposedly lightweight creams can leave my hair looking like it has obvious product in it.

What I've always wanted is incredibly simple: my hair, just better behaved. And that’s exactly what I've found with Mai Nami Hair Pudding.

What Exactly Is Hair Pudding?

The name intrigued me initially because Hair Pudding doesn't really fit into the usual wax, clay, cream or pomade categories.

Mai Nami describes it as a natural, silicone-free leave-in mask hybrid specifically designed with wavy and frizz-prone hair in mind. It essentially combines haircare and styling in one product, helping to nourish dry hair, reduce frizz, define natural waves and provide a soft hold without weighing everything down. And I think that's probably why it works so well for my hair.

Rather than feeling like I've put a styling product on top of my hair, it feels as though I've put something into it. There's a difference.

The Natural Finish Is What Makes It So Good

The biggest compliment I can give Hair Pudding is that once I've used it, my hair still feels like my hair. There's movement. You can run your hands through it. My natural waves are still there. It doesn't become stiff, crunchy or overly styled.vBut at the same time, there's just enough of a slight matte hold to keep everything under control. For me, that balance is incredibly difficult to find.

I don't necessarily want my hair to look perfectly styled. Especially with slightly longer, wavy hair, I prefer that effortless, slightly undone appearance. Hair Pudding allows me to retain that while taking away some of the dryness, fluffiness and frizz that can otherwise come with it.

It's almost difficult to tell I'm wearing a styling product at all.

Haircare Meets Styling

Another reason I've become such a fan is the ingredients. The formula contains ingredients including mango butter, avocado oil, slippery elm and vitamin E, and is free from silicones, sulphates and parabens. Mai Nami designed the formula to offer nourishment alongside styling rather than simply coating the hair to create a temporary finish.

You can also use it in several different ways. Work it through damp hair as a styling product to enhance your natural waves, use a small amount on dry hair to tame frizz and refresh your style, or apply more generously as a 20-minute treatment before rinsing it out. Personally, it's that everyday styling ability that has won me over.

Less Is More

One thing I would say is that you really don't need much. vParticularly if you're looking for that natural finish, start with a small amount and work it through the hair. You can always add a little more where needed.

That's another thing I like about it. I'm not spending ten minutes trying to construct a hairstyle in the mirror. I want something I can work through my hair, shape roughly with my hands and get on with my day.

Is Mai Nami Hair Pudding Worth It?

At the time of writing, a jar is £34, so it's certainly positioned as a more premium hair product. But for me, it's absolutely worth it.

Mai Nami Hair Pudding is, quite simply, the best product I've ever used in my hair.
