I Put AKT Deodorant Through 17 Hours at the Formula One
I'll be honest... I gave up on traditional deodorants a long time ago.
You know the ones. They promise 24-hour protection. Some even stretch that to 48 hours. Yet by mid-afternoon you're wondering whether they've quietly stopped working and nobody told you.
I've tried sprays. Roll-ons. Sticks. Clinical strength. Natural alternatives. Expensive ones. Cheap ones. Most start well enough, but few last an entire day, especially during summer or when you're constantly on the move.
Then I discovered AKT.
I'd seen the brand pop up countless times. Beautiful packaging. Great branding. Plenty of people raving about it. But I've learned not to buy into marketing claims when it comes to deodorant. The only thing that matters is whether it actually keeps body odour at bay.
So instead of writing a review after a week working from home, I decided to give it the ultimate test.
My Real-World Test
Last Saturday I was at the Formula One at Silverstone. The day started at 8am and I didn't get home until 1:30am the following morning.
It was around 30°C, with most of the day spent standing in direct sunshine. I was wearing a vest underneath an overshirt, walking miles around the circuit, climbing grandstands, weaving through crowds and generally spending over 17 hours outside.
And once the racing finished? Chase & Status were headlining.
So after a full day in the heat, I then spent the evening jumping around in a crowd at one of the liveliest sets I've been to in years. If there was ever a day that was going to expose a deodorant, this was it. The next morning, I genuinely expected to notice the usual signs.
Nothing.
No body odour.
No need to immediately shower because I felt self-conscious.
Honestly, I couldn't quite believe it.
Why It Works
Unlike an antiperspirant, AKT doesn't try to stop you sweating. It's an aluminium-free deodorant balm that focuses on neutralising odour while absorbing moisture using ingredients like arrowroot powder, zinc oxide and sodium bicarbonate, alongside nourishing oils and shea butter.
That means you still feel like a human being on a hot day, but without the smell that normally comes with it.
The balm itself takes a little getting used to if you've only ever used sprays or roll-ons. You squeeze out a pea-sized amount and massage it into your underarms. After a couple of days it becomes second nature, and I actually prefer it now.
The fragrances deserve a mention too.
Rather than smelling like a typical deodorant, they feel much closer to a well-made fragrance. Clean, sophisticated and subtle enough that they don't clash with whatever scent you're wearing that day.
Is It Worth The Money?
At around £21 a tube, AKT certainly isn't the cheapest deodorant you'll buy. But it's also one of the few products I've used where I completely understand the price after using it.
One tube lasts surprisingly well because you need so little each day, the packaging is completely plastic-free, and, most importantly, it actually performs when you need it to.
I've reached the point where I don't really want to go back to traditional deodorants.
Final Thoughts
I rarely say this about grooming products because everyone is different. But AKT has genuinely changed my routine. The Formula One test wasn't planned as some scientific experiment. It just happened to be the perfect storm: heat, walking all day, sweating, then dancing until late into the night.
If a deodorant can get through that without me noticing any body odour the next morning, that's about as convincing a review as I can give. Forget the 24-hour and 48-hour promises printed on aerosol cans.
This is the first deodorant I've used where I simply stopped thinking about whether it was working.
And that's probably the biggest compliment I can give it.
