Elite Sporting Masterclasses at Aphrodite Hills: Top of My Family Travel Wishlist

Elite Sporting Masterclasses at Aphrodite Hills: Top of My Family Travel Wishlist

With its sweeping Mediterranean views, five-star facilities, and focus on both relaxation and activity, Aphrodite Hills Resort in Cyprus has long been on my radar. But now, with two sporting legends set to host elite masterclasses this spring, it’s officially jumped to the top of my family travel wishlist.

From world-class golf to premium spa treatments and now once-in-a-lifetime training camps with iconic athletes, this place really seems to offer something for everyone – and I can already imagine my family soaking up the sun while embracing our individual interests.

Train with Sporting Icons

This spring, Aphrodite Hills will play host to not just one, but two sporting greats. Brazilian jiu-jitsu pioneer and UFC Hall of Famer Royce Gracie will headline a six-day MMA and self-defence retreat from 21 April, while ex-England striker Emile Heskey brings his football expertise to a kids’ coaching camp from 26–30 May.

Gracie’s retreat, offered in partnership with SOHA Retreats, includes ju-jitsu and multi-sports training led by Gracie himself, along with top-tier instructors from Gracie Concepts and coach Andy Roberts BJJ. Whether you're an MMA fan or just want to learn practical self-defence, the chance to be trained by one of the sport’s founding figures is rare indeed. Prices start at €2,276 per person, which includes premium hotel accommodation, breakfast, and airport transfers – not to mention, world-class training.

For younger guests – and let’s face it, any football-mad child, Heskey’s coaching sessions are a dream come true. A prolific scorer for Liverpool and England, Heskey will be sharing his skills with children aged 5–16, regardless of their current ability. At €435 per child, the programme includes a signed certificate, medal, and exclusive Masters Football kit – and surely, memories that will last a lifetime.

Sporting Excellence Meets Family-Friendly Luxury

One of the reasons Aphrodite Hills appeals so much is its ability to combine elite-level sport with family-friendly luxury. The resort sprawls across a 234-hectare estate overlooking the sea, with facilities that cater to both the casual holidaymaker and the avid sports enthusiast.

It’s home to PGA National Cyprus, one of Europe’s most prestigious golf courses, as well as top-tier amenities for tennis, padel, basketball, football, horse riding and cycling. There’s also a superb kids’ club, spa, and an equestrian centre that offers riding in the beautiful surrounding countryside, something I know my family would love to explore.

Even without the headline sporting names, Aphrodite Hills is a standout destination. Its reputation for excellence in sport and hospitality has been over two decades in the making. The combination of luxury accommodation, vast outdoor space, and thoughtful programming for guests of all ages makes it a perfect base for a family escape that blends relaxation with adventure.

A Future Family Getaway in the Making

Although we’ve not yet had the chance to visit, this recent announcement has given me even more reason to plan a trip. Whether it's for the incredible sporting opportunities, the breathtaking scenery, or simply the chance to unwind and reconnect as a family, Aphrodite Hills looks like a destination that ticks every box.
