New Year, New Wardrobe: Dress Like Jason Statham

It's 2024 and you're asking yourself, how can I pursue the new year new me mantra with the same old wardrobe. If you have some disposable income then why not treat yourself. Give your wardrobe that boost and start the new year with some much needed purpose.

When people ask me 'hey Carl, what the new fashion trends for men right now?' I tell them I don't know, because I see so many different styles and trends come and go, and it's because of this cyclical nature I don't try and keep up. I ask people, who do people tell you, you look like. Which celebrity?

I had a good friend who told me that he often gets mistaken for Jason Statham. I said 'somewhere Jason Statham is hearing that, and he's getting very offended'. But in truth, it's a good starting template, if that person who you often get physically compared to has an established style. Everybody wants to wear suits like David Gandy, or David Beckham, but not everyone has that proportional frame.

Yes wearing a tailored suit will undoubtedly uptick your wardrobe, but that's not wear I would start. I would start refreshing your wardrobe, from the ground up, using core staples that you feel comfortable wearing, but also follow some of the key rules. Such as matching sunglasses to your face shape. T-shirts to your eye colour, and trousers that fit your natural waistline.

Let's take the Jason Statham example as a starting point.

EYE COLOUR. Jason has hazel eyes. Which is very advantageous as it means he can flip between browns and greens quite easily and still it would look coordinated to match his eyes. You can see in this photo below, he is wearing a tan 3- button suit in the movie Operation Fortune and it matches his eyes perfectly.

He is wearing a dark John Smedley polo underneath to keep the casual and no doubt, he will feel a lot more comfortable and relaxed. Although I do know people, that are more relaxed when wearing a shirt and tie. And that is totally cool as well. However, if you're not in a profession that requires such formalities, in my experience, people don't wear suits and ties in their downtime or everyday life.

The buttoned up polo underneath the suit, is a strong smart casual look that has been around for some time. I certainly noticing it when I saw Tenet for the first time. And gradually it has become more commonplace. A lot of people take it one step further and wear a t-shirt underneath their suit jacket and nothing else. This is not a good look for me. I can't see the point of wearing a suit, and to go so far the other way in the casual department. It's confusing to me.

BODY SHAPE. Jason Statham is not a tall guy, but he is in impeccable shape. Being a former diver and a martial arts expert, he has always maintained a great physical appearance and so naturally, a lot of clothes will look good on him. Very few people have Jason's athletic shape, but he wears all of his clothes in a very tailored way. He doesn't shrink wrap his suits to show off his physique, nor does dress with oversized dinner jackets that will accentuate his height, or lack thereof.

All of his clothes work with his proportions perfectly. So look for someone you know, or someone who's style you want to emulate that has your similar build. Ask what off the peg brands work for them, and then get friendly with your local Dry Cleaner to modify the clothes to fit your frame.

Lastly, Jason wears what I like to call, the timeless pieces. The g9 Baracutas, the white tees, the henleys, the ribbed shawl cardigans, the peacoats, all items that will live long in your wardrobe so long as you take care of them and they are made of good quality.

LATEST. Lastly, when you're getting compared to your celebrity doppelgänger, always take a look at what they are wearing in the present. Jason Statham has a movie coming out called The Beekeeper which looks awesome. So I went onto the IMDB page to see what kind of costumes he will be wearing. One photo I have included shows him wearing a green check lumberjack shirt, over a blue hoody finished with blue mesh baseball cap.

Statham wears mesh caps all the time in his movies. If you've seen Homefront, you will know what I'm talking about. Now a lot of these casual looks, are quite Americanised, which makes sense as they are set in America and Jason himself lives in LA. This might not be your thing, but so long as the clothes do not look like you've been wearing them in fight with a Megalodon, it will still crisp and timeless.
