Best 0.0 Non-Alcoholic Spirits by Lyre’s

Repeat readers will know that I drink alcohol socially, I’m not a binge drinker and I try to have balance in my life. I work out most days and therefore enjoy comforts in food and drink, that’s my balance. Although the older I get, the more I’m trying to shift that balance so that it weighs heavier on the health and fitness side. When you drink alcohol, you tend to have hangovers the next morning – that’s of course very well-known due to dehydration. Now when I was in my 20’s hangovers were manageable, however lately in my 40’s the hangover is a whole new level. My findings after speaking to all of my friends this weekend is that you’re either in one of two categories…1) Those who on a hangover eat junk food, slob around, sleep and generally do nothing. Then 2) Those who can ‘power-through’, they get up and workout saying that if they do some fitness the morning of a hangover it helps get through the day. Unfortunately and shamefully I’m firmly in category 1.

With all of that in mind, this year in 2022, I’ve been experimenting by drinking more non-alcoholic beers and reducing my alcohol consumption. Although there are some very good 0.0 beers being sold right now, I don’t always drink beer and I found that the one area that I struggled to find non-alcoholic versions of my favourite brands was Spirits. Gin, Rum, Whisky etc.

That was until I found the brand LYRE’S and I was blown away; you can find a whole collection of non-alcoholic 0.0 spirits with names like Amaretti (non-alcoholic version of Amaretto), Dark Cane Spirit (non-alcoholic version of Dark Rum), Spiced Cane Spirit (non-alcoholic version of Spiced Rum), Italian Spritz (non-alcoholic version of Aperol) and Pink London Spirit (non-alcoholic version of Pink Gin). I found that each of the Lyre’s spirits were very similar to the originals and a perfect replacement. Used in cocktails, you can hardly if at all tell that you’re drinking zero alcohol.

In England there are an estimated 602,391 dependent drinkers. Only 18% are receiving treatment.

Alcohol is a causal factor in more than 60 medical conditions.

In 2019/20 in England, 74,618 people were in treatment at specialist alcohol misuse services, a fall of 19% since 2013/14.

In 2015/16 in England, victims believed the offender(s) to be under the influence of alcohol in 39% of all violent incidents.

Since 2005, the overall amount of alcohol consumed in the UK, the proportion of people reporting drinking, and the amount drinkers report consuming have all fallen. This trend is especially pronounced among younger drinkers.

In 2016, 23% of 15 year olds reported having been drunk in the last four weeks.

Lyre’s took many years to perfect and I’m glad they took this time because I’ve not experienced a similar brand before where they are re-crafted our favourite spirits and non-alcoholic versions.

With Lyre’s it’s up to you, the power is in your hands – replace some of the alcohol in your drink to make a low alcohol version. Or make your classic favourites (rum & coke, gin & tonic or an old fashioned) as a no-alcohol option simply by selecting from the many Lyre’s variants in their extensive range.
