BEST DRESSED MEN ON THE BAFTAS RED CARPET 2022

The Red Carpet at the Baftas last night saw a tidal wave of impressive versus 'look at me' occasion wear. The dress code was apparently 'subdued' as a mark of deference to the current world events. I'll be focusing on the men's for a spell before I'm inevitably lured back into a transfixed state over the deft simplicity of Rebecca Hall's pale blue Dior dress and Salma Hayek's voluminous deep purple velvet gown.

Sebastian Stan

Not a look I gravitate to but it's getting a lot of column inches this morning. Perhaps more famous for his role as Bucky in Winter Soldier, SS, wore a shirt with a metal ringed collar by Givenchy. There is naturally no need to wear a tie when the shirt is making such a statement. The rest of the shirt has a fly placket concealing the buttons underneath, keeping the lines clean and not over-busying, the overall aesthetic. Notice also the thick soled leather patent shoes, ideal for gaining an extra inch.

Daniel Kaluuya

Daniel, perhaps best known for his role in Get Out, wore a blue suit jacket-come-coat by Prada with flamboyant ocean fur around the hem and bicep. Great for the camera, great for his personal PR, but too look at me for my personal taste.

Tom Hiddleston

Leave it to the lovies to get it right. Tom looks impeccable in a crushed velvet single breasted Ralph Lauren dinner jacket. Zawe Ashton looks curious in her, well how would you describe that? Answers on a postcard or ask the designer Emilia Wickstead.

Kodi Smit-McPhee

Kodi (star of Power of the Dog) is wearing custom Louis Vuitton double breasted suit with interwoven lapels. The fit is generous to say the least. You might think it's oversized but it's delibarate as the sleeve come up perfectly. It's a jacket that is elaborate, but refreshing. Naturally like all the other kids Kodi wants to pair this with white sneakers. That's bookmarked with a white shirt and white skinny tie. This might be too design-led for some prim consciences, but I'm kinda into it.

Ciaran hinds

Star of Belfast, styled by Catherine Hayward, looked the ever clubbable bon viveur in his Giorgio Armani midnight blue tuxedo and vintage Omega watch. The batwing satin bow tie fills a white space nicely and the effect is a suave and relaxed aesthetic, with echoes of London gangster.
