Tom Ford Rose Garden Collection Fragrances Reviewed

Today I need to tell you about the three Rose Fragrances from TOM FORD. Coined the TOM FORD Private Rose Garden Collection. Yes Tom has his own private rose garden and why not share the splendours of those aromas. Or at least, release a collection so he can fund the gardener, the landscaper, and the artist who no doubt is commissioned to paint the roses every day.

Within the collection you'll find Rose D'Almalfi, Rose De Chine and Rose de Russie. I took a visit to the TOM FORD store to buy a scent for Tuula's birthday. Although all three fragrances are marketed as unisex, like all the TOM FORD scents, I found the Rose de Russie was the only one I would wear as it had a leather note. The other two were too feminine for my personal style.

Out of the two I thought the Rose De Chine was the more interesting as a gift for her. Lets take a look at that first with the notes below.

Rose De Chine

Top notes: Chinese Peony
Middle notes: Rose
Base notes: Labdanum, Myrrh

This is a very mature scent. It's more direct than the other two and the Rose note is more enjoyable on this one. It has more dimensionality and a freshness to this. Whilst the Rose D'Almalfi is more coquettish, it hasn't got the mystique nor the exoticism of the Rose De Chine. If you're buying one fragrance from the TOM FORD Private Rose Garden Collection as a gift, I would go for the Rose De Chine hands down. The sophistication and elegance of this fragrance compared to the others says a lot about you.

Rose D'Almalfi

Top notes: Mandarin, Bergamot, Pink Pepper
Middle notes: Rose
Base notes: Almond, Heliotrope

This one came across as slightly undisciplined. The Rose darts around and whilst extremely pleasant, it's a bit undefinable. Which is a good thing. It's hard to nail down and relate to. I get the powdery-pink, the Almond provides a nice anchor later on. Another one perfect for a gift for her, especially when thinking of buying flowers - why not buy a rose fragrance instead!

Rose de Russie

I very nearly pulled the trigger and got this for myself. The White Pepper has a fantastic energy. It is a lot fresher than the other two and with a regal quality. This would be my go-to for a day at the races, a smart afternoon event maybe Cheltenham or the Chelsea Flower show.

My other TOM FORD fragrances outlast this one in terms of sillage. But ladies, if you're looking to get one for him, then Rose de Russie is the clear winner from the three.

Top notes: White Pepper
Middle notes: Rose
Base notes: Leather & Wood

You can buy an atomiser kit from the store with 10ml sample bottles. Otherwise the Private Rose Collection come in 50ml bottles and are available in store and online at TOM FORD.
