JAEGER-LECOULTRE REVEALS REVERSO STORIES EXPERIENCE IN LONDON COVENT GARDEN

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso watch is iconic and every watch lover or collector needs one in their collection alongside an IWC Big Pilot, Rolex Submariner, Cartier Tank and Patek Philippe Aquanaut (in my opinion). Now that is a collection worthy of elite status and one that ticks a lot of boxes. If you lined up all the beautiful watches of this world, none would shine brighter than a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso, utterly unique, beautiful and crafted by the best - any watchmaker would agree that working on a Reverso watch would be the most challenging and take their skills to the absolute limits. It incites conversation around the engineering, the mechanics and the arts. You’ll understand all of this better if you pop over to the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso exhibition in Covent Garden which it situated opposite Bucherer on the square.

This special ephemeral exhibition is in the heart of London for the first time: from December 15th to 24th, Jaeger-LeCoultre is inviting visitors to its Reverso Stories watchmaking experience in Covent Garden.

Since 1833, Jaeger-LeCoultre has created and produced over 1,200 different calibres and filed more than 400 patents. La Grande Maison has a number of world firsts to its credit, along with the legendary patented “swivelling case” of the Reverso watch. Through a compelling journey, Jaeger-LeCoultre will display the history, craftsmanship, innovation and design behind one of Watchmaking’s greatest icons.

A unique and timeless expression of the Art Deco movement, the legend of the Reverso began in 1931 on the polo fields of India, where the idea of a case that could be flipped over was born. With its revolutionary design and immaculate craftsmanship, the Reverso was immediately embraced by trendsetters from all walks of life, quickly transcending its original purpose.

Reverso Stories comprises three exhibition areas: the art installation Spacetime by the renowned American artist Michael Murphy transporting visitors through the three physical dimensions of space and the fourth dimension of time, the Reverso Stories Exhibition which will be the centrepiece of the experience with a fascinating retrospective of the Reverso history and emblematic models, and the 1931 Café offering visitors an immersion in the Art Deco style.

Jaeger-LeCoultre brings together in one place the métiers rares of the Manufacture: enamelling, engraving, gemsetting and guilloché work, revealing Reverso as a true canvas for artistic expression. From historic timepieces to modern-day High Jewellery and miniature-painted models, these pieces provide a special insight into the collection’s stylistic evolution.

The new 1931 Alphabet specially created for Jaeger-LeCoultre by Brooklyn-based lettering artist Alex Trochut will be unveiled at the Café. Celebrated for the way that he harnesses the visual potential of language to redefine typography, Alex turned to Art Deco as his stylistic springboard for the new lettering. The new 1931 Alphabet that Alex has created for Jaeger-LeCoultre is a strongly modern addition to the Maison’s visual identity. Each letter has a boldly sculptural quality and strong sense of visual depth, while also conveying a sense of dynamism and movement. It is equally expressive in both two-dimensional form and as three-dimensional objects.

As a special highlight of the exhibition, La Grande Maison will showcase the most complicated timepiece ever presented in this emblematic collection: the Reverso Hybris Mechanica Calibre 185, with four functioning faces. A result of over six years of development, combining key areas of savoir-faire with innovative new astronomical indications, the Reverso Hybris Mechanica “Quadriptyque” can predict the next global incidence of astronomical events such as supermoons and eclipses.

The Reverso Stories watchmaking experience is open from Monday to Sunday from 11am to 8pm at The Piazza, Covent Garden, WC2E 8RF London. Entry is free of charge. Audio guides are available for the Reverso exhibition.
