A DRIVE IN THE COTSWOLDS INSIDE THE AUDI S8

A DRIVE IN THE COTSWOLDS INSIDE THE AUDI S8

Today some quick thoughts on the Audi S8 that I was lucky enough to drive around the Cotswolds some weeks back. Firstly, it's a little bit scary driving around 100k's worth of automobile. If I break it I'm going to be doing the dishes in the Audi canteen for the rest of my life. Anyway.

It's a luxury car to state the obvious. But the tech on the Audi S8 goes beyond luxury. They have left no stone unturned in seeking out the best possible experience for both drivers and passengers. For example, you walk up to S8 and the suspension elevates to meet you, so you don't have to lower yourself into it and make old man sounds. And then when you leave, the car, it drops back down.

Before you get in, you have admire the beauty and the new additions from its predecessor. The front grill is more upright, it has confidence. The back has a continuous LED light bar and chrome trim. The matrix LED headlights can understand the terrain of the road you're on, it communicates with the car's main-brain if you well and informs what kind of road it's on so it doesn't blind other drivers.

And on that note, it doesn't matter what kind of road you're on. This is a car designed to give you maximum comfort. It's suspension it’s so reactive, it glides over speed bumps. You will not feel the nuances of the roads, (Comfort Plus mode is the one) you won't hear the cacophony of honking horns in London traffic.

The cabin quiet, thanks to the acoustic double glazing and you can control many things in the car with voice activation. The finish inside the car is serene and gorgeous to look at. The suede, the carbon fibre finish, it’s a work of art.

I preferred the manual gears to the tip-tronic, mainly because I got to engage with the car more. I felt the reassuring clicks of the gears, much like closing a Montblanc Cigar box. You're feeling the handiwork of the car.

In the back I hung my suit whilst I casually drove around. It occurred to me how spacious the car was in the back. Which would be perfect for families or travelling salesman maybe. People that live in their cars, take calls in their cars, meetings and basically the Lincoln Lawyers of the world that just love to drive, even when they're stuck in traffic.

I loved every minute of this experience and thank you AUDI and all the team for allowing me to tag along.
