THE BENEFITS OF WINTER SWIMMING

Ladies and Gentlemen and the undecided, with the winter chills setting in you may think the time to hang up the bikini and briefs is nigh. But I say neigh! Now's the time more than ever to get into winter swimming, and today I'm going to share some research on the benefits on winter swimming in connection to swim spas.

Especially in crazy COVID times where people don't feel comfortable sharing communal pools, swim spas have become the unlikely buzz word in the socially distanced locker rooms these days. Albeit in the affluent David Lloyd gyms, I suspect.

1.

Of all the solitary fitness activities, swimming is the less arduous on your bones and joints. During lockdown the sales of treadmills have soured with more people investing in home gym equipment. What most people don't know is an hour of swimming burns almost as many calories as running, without all the impact on your bones and joints.

2.

If anyone else is struggling to climatise to the lack of events and normalcy right now, swimming is a fine distraction. You might also want to incorporate it into your regular workout routine. It's a great way to alleviate any cramps or gnawing muscle aches you may have encumbered either during a workout or bad body posture from sitting at the desk all day. For example, backstroke is the best remedy for back pain. All strokes are an active form of stretching, working your arm muscles, quads, calves and engaging your core.

3.

In a Wellis Swim spa you're not merely reduced to swimming as form of cardio. You also have the option of doing some rowing also. One of the spas is even designed with two seating pods so your other half can relax and talk to her sister about the agony of having to cut her own hair during lockdown.

4.

Winter Swimming is safer in spas than in the rivers for obvious reasons. It's also a heck of a lot more convenient to have something in your back yard making it easier to stick to a strict daily exercise regime. You also have the flexibility of swimming at night in a lit spa with the benefit of swimming in a  heated body of water set to a temperature that you regulate. If the cold swim is your thing that can achieved in a Wellis spa. After a VERY refreshing dip you'll soon appreciate that waiting for the bus in the middle of December isn't as traumatic as it once was. If you're London based and fancy winter swimming outdoors then you can take the plunge at Hampstead Ponds near Gospel Oak.

5.

AND for my last point, (because top 5's sound better than top 4's) because exercise and staying active is the only way of staying mentally upbeat right now. It's a pretty grim world we're living in, unless you love watching NETFLIX for 12 hours a day. (Which ain't that bad in truth). But ultimately you have to find ways of challenging yourself. You have to find ways to change up the daily grind especially if you're grinding from home. (Sounds like an R. Kelly Home Workout YouTube channel that, Grinding From Home). So please positive folks, think upon some Winter Swimming and how Swim Spas can help improve your lifestyle.
