Gentleman Givenchy Eau de Parfum Boisée | Fragrance Review

Today I'm going to review the Gentleman Givenchy Eau de Parfum Boisée a new interpretation of the range that reveals Gentleman's sensual side to the full. A surprising fragrance that pairs the warmth of fiery wood with the subtle elegance of iris.

What does Iris smell of?

I want to bring this up first as the flower is at the heart of Eau de Parfum Boisee, this flower is structured around cedar and cocoa which adds a touch of warmth to the note. The Iris flower itself has a soft, satin like finish. It's neutral, woody, with a floral vibe and is often used for its texture.

Who made Gentleman Givenchy Eau de Parfum Boisée?

It's composed by master perfumers Nathalie Larson and Olivier Cresp like the line's three previous creations. The previous Eau de Parfum was a simple construction, not overly sweet, I liked it a lot. We've certainly come a long way since the 1976 release which had a very dense push of oakmoss and patchouli. I never invested in that one personally but I'm aware that it's a scent that can very easily transport you back to an era.

How does this Gentleman Givenchy Eau de Parfum Boisée differ

I would say this a more complex scent. It's definitely got a more spicy undertone. It's not as rounded as the 2018 release but I don't think it's set out to be. Imagine if the 2018 Gentleman Givenchy flanker is the Saving Private Ryan of fragrances, this would be The Thin Red Line. Slightly less unstructured, not as polished, but oddly more enjoyable because of the complexity and its ability to surprise you. Plus George Clooney turns up at the end to gift you ... I'm kidding.

Where can I wear this fragrance?

It's not overly spicy that you'll be wearing this for Black tie. I wonder if that's where Givenchy are trying to position this especially with the slick look of their ad campaigns featuring Aaron Taylor Johnson. Which are fantastic by the by. It's not aromatic or mysterious enough for Black tie. But with its Black pepper and woody, floral notes afforded by the Iris, it's also not an everyday scent.

I would love to wear this on 3rd or 4th date when you're looking to mix things up with your potential partner. Again it has that surprise complex structure to it. I think it's fine for client meetings, casual meetings, maybe office wear but it might be a bit aggressive in a close knit office.
