Atlas by Laboratory Perfumes | Unisex Fragrance Review

Atlas by Laboratory Perfumes | Unisex Fragrance Review

Today I'm going to talk about the Atlas fragrance by Laboratory Perfumes. This fragrance is marketed for him and her and was released in 2017.

The packaging is a tubular box with a beige grain. The bottle is also cylindrical with a silver cap and an opaque but not transparent liquid.

THE OPENING

It  starts out with a very strong spicy smell. Imagine entering one of those food markets in Brick Lane. It's very piercing, very powerful and quite arresting. It doesn't have that freshness that you often get with an opening of a mid-range fragrance.

ON SECOND THOUGHTS

Once that opening has settled and the scent has relaxed on the skin, I got some apple pie vibes. The pipe tobacco which many people have warned me about takes time to come through, but once it does it’s a very surprising and crisp delivery. I'm instantly transported to a nostalgic moment and it somehow takes me out of myself.

I get somewhat lost. Distracted. It takes me about 5 minutes to regain my focus and I can't only compliment the fragrance for that escapism. I guess it's doing its job. Evoking memories, inspiring stories etc.

THE DRY DOWN

After I'm done flirting with the opening notes, the layers begin to come through in a continually complex way. There are layers of rum, vanilla and hay. There's no denying this is quite a boozy fragrance. Which I don't mind, but could be a bit too strong for people looking for an everyday scent.

EVERYDAY SCENT

If you're looking for something more every day, something that could be worn all year round then the Tonka, Gorse and Amber by Laboratory fragrances would all be a better fit.

WHY BUY THE ATLAS FRAGRANCE?

I would certainly try before you buy on this one as the dry down isn't for everyone. It does throw you sideways with the blend of rum and black pepper. It's very assertive and borderline pushy.

That said, I'd buy this if you'd like a complex scent in your canon. It's playful and will keep people guessing. This also has one of the best longevities I've ever had on a scent. I got close to 11 hours which is remarkable for the price point.
