Winter White: And The Memories of Christmas

Winter White: And The Memories of Christmas

Unbelievably as I type this, snow has descended in Chiswick. But not that white pillow-puff snow that you see children dance in. The miserable snow on top of wet hedgerows. If snow could be grey, and without purpose, this was it. Isn't snow marvelous? If you put aside the inevitable deluge of snow photos I'm being sent by grown men who mark the arrival of snow with the same incredulity as rain does for Namibian Farmers.

The only place to celebrate snow, (should one not ski that is) is on the cover of Christmas cards, or in those Snow Leopard documentaries where the cameramen break down and cry at the sheer sight of them.

Lastly, maybe somehow, the spirit of snow, synthesized or its soul captured in a candle. This WINTER WHITE candle by Sand & Fog I picked up at a Strip Mall, and here are my thoughts.

The hype

Scent: This scent falls in the warm and woody fragrance family. Top notes - pine, cypress, eucalyptus; Middle notes - cinnamon, clove, sweet notes; Base notes - patchouli, cedarwood, oakmoss. Insider tip: if you want to find similar fragrances, go to our search tool and type in Warm & Woody.

The word on the street

Great quality and the scent is beautiful. It's fresh yet warm. One of my favorites.

My Thoughts

There is an uplift of patchouli and cedarwood that immediately shakes me from my Meldrew-esque melancholy, and transports me to logfires in the village. Pre-Cost of living crisis where every room in the house was heated without a second thought. (Not by the children anyway. How my parents must have saved fruitlessly to afford the gifts, the food, and the heating.) Then you have the relatives, the shopping, the neighbours Christmas cards. It really must have been a full time job, and for what reward? To see me stomp out the room in tears because they got the wrong Dungeons and Dragons figurine?

Kids, kiss your Dad on the cheek this Christmas, and thank him for everything. Even before you open a single gift. Help your mum with the dishes and peel the potatoes and carrots. Walk the dogs, and put your phones away. Unless you want to take a picture of everyone at the dinner table.

Let your Brothers laugh at your expense, without overreacting and causing a scene. This Christmas is not about you, you just happen to be there.
