Getting Back Into The Habit Of Travel After A Break

Getting Back Into The Habit Of Travel After A Break

Holidays are easier when we’re younger and live at home. With fewer responsibilities and bills to pay it’s easier to save and the longer summer holidays found during school or university mean there are more opportunities to set dates to travel.

As we get older, travelling may require a bit more planning as children, careers, a mortgage, and any other responsibilities require much more of your attention. If you haven’t been travelling as much as of late, and want to start taking trips more regularly, we’ve put together a guide with some ideas to help you get started again.

Go Somewhere Familiar

If it’s been a few years since you’ve been abroad, going somewhere you’ve visited in the past can help you get the ball rolling. You’ll be familiar with the surroundings, and you will have a better idea of what to expect when you arrive. Some things may have changed but you might be able to remember streets you’ve walked through or find shops or cafes you’ve appreciated before. Nostalgia and tripping old memories will help you rediscover what you enjoyed about travelling when you had done it last.

What About A Staycation?

If you’ve got young kids, holidays might be a little more difficult and can get more expensive as you will need a bigger room and pay for more seats.

There is still a way to get out there without having to go abroad – a staycation. To cut back on costs you can drive to a destination within the country. Maybe go up north or stay within the city, there are a few different things you can do to entertain the family. Some cities have small public inner city farms that allow kids to pet the animals, for scenery you could head to beautiful historic cities like Edinburgh or you can head to Norfolk to have a glimpse at the seals.

You can head wherever you like, there are plenty of places around the country that will offer something different and new, whether that’s sights, nature or cuisine.

Visit The Beach

If it’s right in the middle of summer, head to the beach, the ocean and sand does something to our minds and helps us feel a little calmer. You’ll feel the worries and stresses of everyday life melt away as you bask in the sun and listen to the sound of the waves. If you want to experience something different, head along to the Cornish coast. You can swim, surf, treat yourself to Cornish fudge and then go out to explore the source of many myths and legends. A few sites around the Cornish coast such as Tintagel Castle are linked to King Arthur, which you can wander through when taking the King Arthur trail.

 Head Out Somewhere Different

Alternatively, you could find a holiday with a little more thrill and exhilaration. You could go on safari while you’re in South Africa, trek across the Rocky Mountains, or go scuba diving in the Caribbean, or take a trip deep into the ancient rainforest.

There are safer options, you don’t need to head somewhere too extreme or do something that might seem scary. You could cycle through rural Vietnam or Albania or pay for a group exploration of vineyards in the Greek Islands. Whatever type of holiday you choose to go on, it would be a good idea to take out travel insurance. You should be looking for a policy that covers theft and loss protection as well as any flight related problems such as cancellations. Check out the Staysure website to get an idea of the policy you could be looking at, each policy is different and some things can be covered and some things like extreme sports might not be.
