My Top 5 Glenfiddich Whiskies

My Top 5 Glenfiddich Whiskies

It's featured in a multitude of films and TV series such as Jack Reacher, Family Guy and of course the riotously funny (question face emoji) The Vicar of Dibley.

Glenfiddich is a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky produced by William Grant & Sons in the Scottish burgh of Dufftown in Moray. The name Glenfiddich derives from the Scottish Gaelic Gleann Fhiodhaich meaning "valley of the deer", which is reflected in Glenfiddich's stag logo.

I am currently on a flight to Turkey, I've asked for a whisky and to my delight they've pulled out a miniature bottle of the 12 year Glenfiddich single malt. 'You must have been expecting me,' I told the cabin crew in my barely passable Connery-as-Bond accent. They looked a little nonplussed as you might expect.

It's honestly right up there as my favourite whiskies. It's certainly my favourite of the Glenfiddich stable. But that's given the game away for this listicle hasn't it? Ok so at number one, the Glenfiddich 12 year old. I've given this some consideration, and what comes next? What would I like to see in the mini-bar when I open my fridge in my hotel room.

GLENFIDDICH PROJECT XX

I'm a sucker for a whisky with a fruity character. The XX is the ripest of the bunch in that regards with hints of apple blossom, summer fruits and ripe pear. But its multiple personalities are revealed with hints of sweet candyfloss, cinnamon spice, almonds and rich port tannins with the odd whisper of liquorice.

GLENFIDDICH IPA EXPERIMENT

This is one of the best things about Gelnfiddich, their ambition. They are true artisans in the way they love to experiment with their liquids. That’s how you continue to pioneer new kinds of single malt Scotch whisky. They created the beer first in order to finish their India Pale Ale Cask. They settled on a more traditional IPA craft beer, picked for its ability to imbue their oak casks with extra hoppy flavours.

GLENFIDDICH GRAND COURONNE - 26 yr

The hellmary if anyone is looking for gift ideas for me this Christmas. "CROWN THE OCCASION" This 26 year old single malt is the crowning glory of their Grand Series, whiskies which celebrate the merging of two worlds coming together. After maturing at the Glenfiddich Distillery, Grande Couronne has an extended two-year finish in rare French Cognac casks. Won't find it many places, but if you do be sure to snap one up and invite me round.

GLENFIDDICH 15 YEAR

At the end of the day you know exactly what you're getting if you buy a bottle of Glenfiddich. Similarities to the 12-year-old version are definitely there, but this 15-year-old does not seem as fruity as the 12-year-old, but rather reminds a little more of honey and caramel.
