MOLTON BROWN CELEBRATE THEIR 50TH YEAR WITH 2 NEW RELEASES

Molton Brown, texture like sun. Sorry, where was I, singing the wrong lyrics. Today I want to shine a light on British fragrance makers Molton Brown. Now entering their 50th year, with a modest half bat-wave to their peers in the balcony, they're still firmly focused on rediscovering perfumery in dynamic new ways, always Made in England and cruelty free.

With two new ambery fragrance collections to intrigue your sense: Neon Amber and Labdanum Dusk. Both sound like U2 tracks that come free on your new iPhone. And hey, that's not a bad thing, if you like U2, or free stuff. I digress

Let's begin with breaking down the scents.

Neon Amber

This ambery-vanilla fragrance began as a deeply personal project for New Gen Perfumer Jérôme Di Marino. He initially created it to wear himself, as an aficionado of deep, opulent scents. (Is there anything more sexy than a man that can make his own scent?) Always one to put a new twist on classic notes, Jérôme has reinvented one of the industry’s most iconic accords – Amber 83. Created in 1889 by the legendary perfume house De Laire, Amber 83 is built around vanilla, cistus labdanum and patchouli.

The accord became the sophisticated, groundbreaking base for warm, ambery fragrances.

In this exciting and never-seen-before creation, Jérôme replaced the typical vanilla note with an overdose of tonka absolute – the ‘new vanilla’ – for a creamy and complex heart. The Eau de Toilette leaps out of the pack with a bright mandarin and pink pepper top notes, leading to an adventure trail with resinous cistus and fresh, mineral ambroxan. The Eau de Parfum has a velvety character, with a mysterious dusting of hay absolute as the signature note. It’s enlivened by sparkling bergamot top notes and the tobacco undertones intensifies the character.

Summarised on the press release as; Audacious. Intense. Passionate. (Coincidentally the bio on my Tinder profile back in the day.)

Labdanum Dusk

This ambery-woody fragrance modernises labdanum, also known as ‘rock rose’ – an ancient ingredient used in incense and perfumery. Senior Perfumer Nathalie Koobus introduces verdant cypriol and cedarwood for contemporary earthiness. She liberates the leathery, smoky facets of labdanum with rare, natural oudh as the signature note; sustainably sourced from Dubai through a durable replanting process. With a covetable design, this precious fragrance is perfect for lovers of five-star indulgence. (Hey that's me!)

Summarised on the press release as; Exceptional. Enigmatic. Treasurable. (None of the words used to describe me on any school report back in the day).

Both fragrances available on the Molton Brown website and instore for £120 for 100ml.
